Parkinson’s Forum in Cincinnati Saturday, April 26, 9 am The Harvey Chyette Spring Forum returns with a program that provides complimentary breakfast and lunch at the Manor House in Mason, Ohio. There is no charge for participants. This half day event featuring national level speakers plus exhibits about services and products such as home health care, fitness programs, medical and surgical procedures, and Parkinson’s books. YSSC is planning to provide transportation to this event. Email [email protected] no later than April 23 to make arrangements.
YS Earth Day Sunday, April 27, 1–4 pm This annual event, sponsored by the Tecumseh Land Trust, the Village of Yellow Springs, and the Yellow Springs Senior Center, this year will be held at the Senior Center’s new property at the corner of East North College and Livermore Street. Celebrate Earth Day with music by the Corndrinkers, native plant sales, environmental booths, kids’ activity tents and local food trucks. Ethical Wills Tuesday, April 29, 10 am Artie Isaac presents information on Ethical Wills. Ethical wills are not a legal document or about material items, they are a way to convey your values, stories, and important information to loved ones. Photo Walks starts, meets weekly Thursday, May 1, 9 am Experienced photographer Elly Marshall will lead 8 weeks of a hybrid class that begins in the Great Room each week, reviewing photo slides and techniques for 20–30 minutes before heading out into the village for a photo walk. Any type of camera (phone, digital, film, etc) and any level of photography knowledge is acceptable. Suggested donation $10/class, or pay ahead for a discounted rate. Draw What You See starts, meets weekly Monday, May 5, 10 am Don Sak is a local artist, retired from a 34-year career as an artist for The Plain Dealer in Cleveland. Memoir Class starts, meets weekly Monday, May 5, 10 am Memoir writing often involves exploring your life to discover meaningful events, people, and places. Debra Williamson will guide you through the process of finding those stories, giving you space to write, organize, and add details to bring your moments to the page. Open Game Time starts, meets weekly Monday, May 5, 12 noon Come anytime between 12–4 pm if you have a game you want to play.
Genealogy Club starts, meets weekly Tuesday, May 6, 10 am Do you have questions about your family tree? How to start one, what to do with one already started? Is DNA for you? A family mystery to solve? Or do you just want a time and place to talk about what you’ve learned or learn new things, share with others what you know? Come and sit with us, newcomers and oldtimers, bring your papers, laptops, questions, answers, whatever you’ve got! Brunch Bunch: Linh’s Bistro Tuesday, May 6, 11 am The Brunch Bunch explores local restaurants to build community through sharing food. This month is at Linh’s Bistro Vietnamese restaurant, 5532 Airway Road in Dayton. Either meet at the John Bryan parking lot at 10:30 am or meet at the restaurant at 11 am. Death Café Thursday, May 8, 10 am Neil Fogarty will facilitate a group discussion of up to 15 participants. Note this is not a support group, grief group, or marketing event. This is a safe space to discuss death with no set agenda. Register at 937-767-5751 or [email protected].
Innovations of YS: How to Use AI for Good and Evil Thursday, May 8, 7 pm Yellow Springs has an incredible history of innovation with great stories to tell. CD Decorating Party Friday, May 9, 11 am Join us as we paint some CDs. The CDs will be used as memento art for the Parkinson’s Puzzle Hunt which will be May 17. Paints, brushes, and prepared CDs will be provided.

A Somatic CommuniTEA of Practice for Seniors starts Thursday, May 15–June 12, 10 am, Join somatic practitioner and circle facilitator Amy Rebekah in a five-week embodied exploration for seniors to support a sense of safety and connection as we navigate times of transition together. Participants will learn information and practices to support nervous system regulation during times of stress and change. Dress comfortably and bring a notebook or journal. Tea will be provided. Village Voices: Jim Duffee “Aging in Yellow Springs: Opportunities for Collaboration” Thursday, May 15, 7 pm Jim Duffee, retired physician and president of the board of Friends Care Community, will speak on “Aging in Yellow Springs: Opportunities for Collaboration.” He will speak on the current services of Friends Care Community, along with future possibilities and will also show slides from a recent market study commissioned by Friends regarding local needs and opportunities for aging people in the community, opening the conversation up to the audience. The Senior Center hosts monthly guests on the third Thursday to share their expertise and knowledge with the community. Programs meet in the Great Room and on Zoom. All are welcome. Art Reception: Pat Robinow Friday, May 16, 4–6 pm Puzzles and Other Things by Pat Robinow is on view from May 1–June 30. Pat is a Front Desk volunteer at the Senior Center on Monday mornings. There’s an active group of puzzle enthusiasts who are there most days and they are a major theme of this show. She made small sketches of them which she used for larger paintings and collages. The show, which also includes other subjects from her everyday world, can be viewed during the Center’s open hours Monday–Friday from 9:30 am–4 pm, unless there is a class in the Fireplace Room.
Parkinson’s Puzzle Hunt Saturday, May 17, 9:30–12:15 pm Solving puzzles is great for brain health for people of all ages, and that goes double for people with Parkinson’s Disease. Gather a small team to exercise your brain as you walk around Yellow Springs solving puzzles suitable for all ages. Every participant gets to take home a small piece of art as a memento, and team prizes will be awarded. The proceeds from this puzzle hunt will benefit the Parkinson’s Foundation of Cincinnati. Soulcollage® Drop In Sunday, May 18, 2 pm Karen Nelson leads monthly drop-in sessions on the third Sundays to gather and play in the evocative world of images. Images will be available but participants should bring their collage kit or get a supply list from Maggie.

Flash Mob Wednesday, May 28, 1 pm To celebrate National Senior Health & Fitness Day, the YSSC is presenting the annual Flash Mob event choreographed by Lynn Hardman at 1 pm on Short Street. Those interested in learning the choreography should attend the Line Dance Class on Friday afternoons. The goal of National Senior Health & Fitness Day is to promote regular physical activity. This year’s theme is “Flip the Script on Aging.”
Dayton Dragon’s Game Thursday, May 29, 7 pm Join the Senior Center for a Dayton Dragons baseball game. Tickets are first-come-first served. Transportation is NOT provided. GrandFriends Day At Young’s Jersey Dairy Saturday, May 31, 10 am YSSC and the YS Community Children’s Center are hosting a joint FUNdraising event at Young’s. The event starts at 10 am at Cowtherine’s Carousel with welcome remarks and the fun goes all day. There are three options for tickets: • 3 tickets for $24.95 • 5 tickets option for $32.95 • ‘Mooitall’ all-day-access wristbands (age 5 to 11 for $20.50; age 12 and up for $27.50) Tickets will be sold at the Senior Center and the Children Center with 20% donated back (10% each).
