Chair Exercises Mondays, 11–11:45 am, Great Room Led by Dawn Clark
Rock Steady Boxing Monday, noon, Great Room and online This class uses non-contact boxing training to combat symptoms of Parkinson's Disease. The rhythmic exercises use everyday objects for resistance and dexterity. Participants at any level of physical ability are adapted to and provided modifications. Socialization and mental challenges enhance the program. This is a hybrid class with some participants meeting in the Great Room and others joining on Zoom. Yoga Monday & Thursday, 1:30–2:45 pm, Great Room and online All levels welcome, co-led by Reena and Amy Harper. Yoga inspired movement which slowly builds strength and flexibility, both maintaining our mobility, with additional balance exercises, learned from physical therapy). Movements can be done standing, sitting, or on the floor and hand weights can be added if desired. We take 15 minutes before class time to chat, which we've learned, builds comradery and. supports coming back! Qi Gong Tuesday & Friday, 1-1:45 pm, Great Room Qi Gong is an ancient Chinese health care system that integrates physical postures, breathing techniques and focused intention. Western scientific research confirms that Qi Gong reduces hypertension and the incidence of falling. One of the more important long-term effects is that Qi Gong reestablishes the body/mind/soul connection. The group follows an easy DVD on the big screen.
Dancing with Parkinson’s Wednesday, 2-2:45 pm, Great Room and online For people with Parkinson’s and their spouses or caregivers. This movement class is simple, fun, free-form choreography performed to music, to get the body moving in a way that feels good, enjoyable and socially engaging. The participant works at his/her own potential on that day. Exercises can be modified to suit each individual’s level of comfort and ability. This particular class has been shown to have positive effects on gait speed, strength, balance, and quality of life. This is a hybrid class with some participants meeting in the Great Room and others joining on Zoom. In person participants need to come in the front door, check in, then go to the Great Room. Line Dancing Fridays, 11:30 am, Great Room If you can walk, you can dance, and if you feel more comfortable in a seat than on your feet, you can dance from a chair! Lynn Hardman teaches learn popular line dances from all eras, genres, and countries, incluing a few folk dances. Suitable for all ages; children with adult chaperones are encouraged to attend.
Kung Fu (youth) & Tai Chi/Qi Gong: Free Trail Class Sundays, 10 am–12 noon, Great Room Classes are $7.50 for Senior Center members and $15 for non-member, per class. To register send your name & phone number to [email protected] or contact the Senior Center at 937-767-5751.
Tai Chi and Qi Gong Class: 10–11 am
Youth Kung Fu Class: 11 am–12 noon
Grand Master Gao is a 16-time world champion martial arts, kung fu and Tai chi, 10-degree black belt in AKA. His training began at age six; he has received over 30 years of intensive professional training in and martial arts and kung fu. Gao is passionate about teaching tai chi and kung fu. He has trained students who have won national and international championships, and teaches people of all ages and abilities, helping them improve their health and develop self-defense skills.
